FAQ

Since becoming the General Secretary of the BACL (June 2008) I have been asked many question about the organisation and my personal motivation for joining it. In all this time there are some important and fundamental questions that get asked repeatedly and for that reason I have prepared a FAQ and some answers below. I welcome the opportunity to speak to you should you have any question that are not covered.

How has the BACL has changed?

Since June 2008 the BACL has undergone several significant changes.  These changes were deemed necessary to revitalise the organisation and to align itself with the purpose of serving the community, by helping its political champions in whichever way possible to get elected.

The BACL now has a constitution which governs its activities and provides clear guidelines on issues such as its organisational structure, election of all the executives that serve the BACL and membership to the organisation.

The BACL now has a new, dynamic and energetic team who are all passionate about the ‘Cause’.  These people come from all walks of life and disciplines.  Each of them are selected based on their ability for the role, their commitment to the organisation by being able to dedicate time to achieve results in their respective role and a common belief that the modern Conservative Party under the leadership of David Cameron, is a party which aligns itself with core Asian values.

How is the BACL going to make a difference?

The BACL‘s Strategy is to develop and provide the Conservative Party with a talent pool of capable people who have the skills and aspirations to have a career in politics.
BACL are focusing on young third to fourth generation educated Asians, born and bought up in this country. This generation wants a credible organisation that can act as a conduit to the Conservative Party.

Isn’t the BACL just another club for the rich and influential?

No!  The BACL is an open democratic and transparent organisation. There are no bars to joining the BACL at any level. We encourage people of all calibre and race to join us.

How can the BACL make a difference to Asians in the UK?

By providing a forum to present their views, issues and by encouraging them to participate we can influence the change they desire.

Does membership of the BACL take up peoples valuable time?

No. As an ordinary member of the BACL there is no obligation for you to do any work for the BACL unless you wish to contribute your time on a voluntary basis.

Who funds the BACL?

The BACL raises funds from its membership with various fundraising events, sponsorships and donations.

What kind of entity is the BACL?

The BACL is a non-profit making organisation run by volunteers.

Is the BACL London based?

Like parliament the Nation HQ are in London, however we are a national organisation with members across the country.

What is in it for the BACL members?

  • BACL provides value and opportunity to all its members in several different and important ways;
  • We organise networking events with access to key people in the Conservative Party.
  • We provide a talent pool of intelligent and politically inspired people.

Do people have to be members of the Conservative Party to help the BACL?

Yes. To become a member of the BACL requires membership of the Conservative Party.
