Press Release

The BACL Walk About With Conservative Mayoral Candidate , Mr Steve Norris & GLA Member Mr Richard Barnes

On Saturday 29th May 04 Steve Norris, the Conservative Mayoral Candidate and member of the British Asian Conservative Link and Mr Richard Barnes, member of the GLA went on a ‘Walk About’ in West London. Wherever they went they were received by the local community with open arms.

The people of West London are looking for a change and feel let down by the current mayor who has penalised the motorist and killed business in the process. The local expressed anger at the increased parking restrictions in the area, which were seen as an indirect tax on the motorist and are now in force on Sundays too. There was more concern over the Mayors proposed trams in the high streets, which may end business completely.

Mr Norris promised to end the congestion charge when he is elected and ensure that trams will not be introduced unless they have the full support of the public.

The Chairman of The BACL, Mr Ranbir Suri introduced Mr Norris to local leaders and the General Secretary Dr Rami Ranger said ‘London is a good city and needs a good mayor. No body fits the job as well as Mr Norris!’
