Dinner At The Carlton Club in Honour Of  The Rt. Hon Francis Maude MP, Chairman of the Conservative Party. September 19th 2006.

 

The British Asian Conservative Link (BACL) honoured the Chairman of the Conservative Party, The Rt Hon Francis Maude in a befitting style at the prestigious Carlton Club in London SW1A. 

 

The Club's Churchill Room was full of enthusiastic people wanting to hear The Chairman speak, many others had been disappointed when tickets sold out in record time.

 

Also at the event were distinguished guests Mr Dominic Grieve MP, Shadow Attorney General, Ms Smita Purushotam of the High Commission of India and Baroness Sandy Verma. 

 

The General Secretary of the BACL, Dr Rami Ranger, MBE, FRSA paid tribute to the Rt Hon Francis Maude MP, saying that he, along with the Rt Hon David Cameron MP are the architects of a modern Conservative Party, able to win election after election.  They are men of vision and had united the Party and given it a clear direction. 

 

Paying tribute to Mr Dominic Grieve MP, Dr Ranger went on to say that he is a true friend of every community, a loyal and sincere person who is a credit to the Party and an asset to the nation. 

 

Chairman of the BACL, Mr Ranbir Suri spoke of a need for Asians to become more involved and praised Francis Maude for being bold in elevating Lord Sheik and Baroness Verma to the House Of Lords.  He went on to say that we need to see more ethnic minorities in the House Of Commons and The House of Lords.  

 

Baroness Verma addressed the guests, saying that we are all proud of our origins but we must be loyal to the country of our domicile. No one can progress unless they feel a sense of belonging to where they live. 

 

Councilor Pritpal Singh of Herts Council spoke about the contribution the BACL has made, he said the BACL was a platform for Asians to reach people at the top of the Party. 

 

Mr Shantoo Ruparell thanked all for attending the event and gave special thanks to Mr Suri and Dr Rami Ranger for the time and effort they have devoted to making the BACL a success for the Tory Party.
